Alternator issues

Alternator issues I've found that the Alt exciter wire is not activating, so the Alt won't charge(and the
battery runs down).
The wire was checked 2 inches from the pcm.
I have a friend checking the pcm for a bad driver circuit.
Otherwise, I need to rig the alt to constantly charge. I had another friend put a meter
on his alt exciter wire and he reported +9v.
I can get a lm7809 regulator and send 9v to the alt. Before I rig this up, does
anyone have experience with this sort of Alt issue? Any suggestions?
