I bought a new laptop and the only external ports in really has is Firewire and 3 USB ports. Is there anyway that I can get my parallel cable to work? I know I can buy an adapter to turn the parallel plug from the PCM into a USB plug, but will the Free Scan(OBD-I) program recognize it. I have already asked the guy who wrote the Free Scan program about it and he hasn't e-mailed me back in over a week.

You can get a converter that about it. And are sure it parallel and not serial. Either way they make converters for usb to serial (recommend a keyspan)

Yeah if you decide to use a USB to serial converter, get ONLY a Keyspan brand unit! There have been a ton of problems with the others.
