YES, It will, I used a belkin 103 RS232 to USB adapter, the bekin 109 drivers did not work for me but worked with my EFI-LIVE scan tool.

A PCMCIA adatper I think would be better than both USB adapters But I never tried this so I cant tell you which one would work with LS1 edit. The belkin 103 USB to RS232 worked fine for me and other people on this board, I also hear Keyspan worked well but can't confirm this. I'm used to interfacing my lap top with various manufactures PLC's and drive system's so I't was easy for me. GOOD LUCK!

I have a keyspan four port usb to serial. I log efilive, and a wideband o2 at the same time. It works with ls1-edit and everything else.

The only down side of using a PCMCIA adapter is that it cost about four times as much, If you can get a USB adapter to work, I would posibly use that due to cost but on the other side the PCMCIA card can be faster, possibly less code convertion than USB, and might be a little more dexterous, I broke the plastic lip in my USB port on my computer right after uploading a program! From what I heard if I remember correctly is that you can make an effective door stop out of your PCM if you disconnect before you finish uploading a program.

I got a belkin f5u409 and cannot get it to work. When I try to read the pcm it says it cannot establish communication with the pcm.

Re: Can a usb to serial adapter work with LS1 edit?
I didnt have any luck at all with a couple USB adapters I tried on my newer dell laptop, Belkin and I forget the other. I had to reboot if I switched from efilive to ls1edit and it took forever to upload a program using LS1edit, really scared my once on my old C5 - it took an hour once to flash the PCM. I had an old p120 IBM laptop I ended up using for car stuff and it was three times as fast for logging/uploading using a real rs232 port but it took a week to open a large efilive file..
After farting around with USB adapters for hours I just ended up buying a pII 300 laptop (the fastest/cheapest I could find with a real serial port) for 250.00 on eBay and use it for car stuff only. I am very happy with it
