Trouble shooting P1637?
Trouble shooting P1637? Ok guys..
I am throwing a P1637..
I have checked the exciter wire on the top of the alternator.. It seems to be fine..
Does anyone know the normal output voltage of the alternators on these cars while idling? I am showing a hair over 13 volts at idle.. Seems like it used to be closer to like 14.6?
Also.. My odometer is "blinking" or "flashing", kinda glitching like...
Also, my Interceptor guage stops working, until I turn the car off, then it boots up normally..
I have gremlins in my electrical system and I'm just trying to figure out the best way to go about eliminating items..

i'm throwing the same code and have been through 3 alternators now, killed them all, granted they are from sucky autozone so i dont know what the problem is????? Is this p1637 L-terminal circuit code causing my alternators to die??? please help!! i'm driving 2000 miles in two weeks and need my car to run flawlessly

very true, 3 autozone = cost of one good one 
luckily its lifetime guarantee so i only paid once, but i still have to change it. I'm just wondering if its cuz its a poor quality alternator or if it has to do with this L-terminal circuit code?

I barely pinched the exciter wire where it plugs into the PCM and it made the car act like the alternator was dead.
It was a tiny pinch too so quick check that wire and make sure its in tact all the way to the pin-in on the PCM.
I actually pinched it putting the PCM lid back on so be careful in that area.
Just a thought.
