Default forcing open loop

Will unplugging the o2's force it open loop until I get a open loop tune? Car has open headers and I don't want the outside air going back up the exhaust and causing the o2's to read lean thus making it more rich when it doesn't need to be. Engine is brand new and I don't want to wash out the rings. I'm assuming I'll be alright to leave the MAF plugged in?

Thanks

Well the PCM will revert to OL simply because there's no O2 feedback, but of course you'll also have an SES light on as well.

If you force it into opel loop mode (while untuned), it might be as rich or richer than leaving the O2's connected. Are you planning on driving it around like this? Or just moving from one spot to another?

I want to run it long enough to get it up to temp, check everything for leaks, heat cycle the valve springs a few times, try and get a ball park setting on the vacuum pump, and be able to back it out of the shop and load it into the trailer to go get it tuned. If there's a chance it'll wash the rings I'll skip all this but I hate to strap it on the dyno only to find it pissing fluids everywhere.

You will also run the risk of ruining the 02 sensors, having them in the exhaust stream without the heaters powered up can cause them to clog up.

I was going to unplug them and just take them out.
