GMPP LS2 Controller, can run w/o fly by wire?
Hi guys,
Im am about to purchase and install an LS2 crate motor into my Landcruiser.
I have been researching this forum regarding possible controller options,
including Megasquirt. Think I have decided it's a bit complicated for me at this stage so the concept of having a GM factory designed system is excellent. it appears GMPP have released a kit to do this: part no: 19166568

I am however, horrified by the concept of the 'Fly by Wire' throttle system.
Especially because I dunk my Cruiser in mud.
I would like to adapt a conventional cable system to the throttle body.
Has this been done with this kit? will the controller have a fit?
Anyone know how reliable the factory electric throttle system is?
I Know Kia's (or something) have them and they are total rubbish.
Cheers,
Matt

GM has been using fly by wire throttle since 1993 or 1994 on the 6.5L diesel so they have a couple of years of experience at it, I don't know if Kia has even been around that long. The key part for you is the programming, some on here say the GMPP controller is programmable and others say it isn't. If it is, than you should be able to turn off anything related to the ETC and go to a cable throttle body. Your fear of mud sounds backwards to me, if the mechanical cable is constantly subjected to dirt and mud it will cause issues, the fly by wire seems like a better choice.

Yeah i would not be scared of FBW, It is a sealed system. id be more worried about a cable one.
All the wiring is water tight at the connectors.if you are getting mud all the say up at the engine, id be more worried of other things.
I think we can tune the new controllers. I had a few come thru last week.

Thanks for reply guys,
Good to hear its not a new system. I was more worried about the pedal than the throttle motor, seems more vulnerable to getting wet cos its down low.
Still havent got hold of an engine either. Im considering getting an LQ9 from turn key engine supply. Its horrifyingly expensive though.
other option is half price get an LS2 from Australia but its a bare crate motor.
no ecu loom etc..
Anyone dealt with turnkey engine supply?
