Default pcm recaliberating?

hey guys. i just finished rebuilding my 98 camaro z28 ls1 block. i did rod bearings cam bearings a new cam (216/224) new lifters. and some more. i drove it for about 2 days and then it just shut off. it started right back up and check engine light came on. so i took it straight to my garage and hooked the computer up and read cmp codes p0331 and p0334. (i think those where the right numbers) but anyways it said the cam position sensor was to high or low. since i put a bigger cam in i need to get the pcm tuned so the computer knows what size cam is in it? cuz it says the cam sensor isnt connecting right with the crank sensor. am i right? hope you can help. and if i do need a hand held tuner? is it better to get a new one or get a used one off ebay that someone doesnt need anymore?

First thing I would do is check the connector - with those codes, it looks like the cam sensor connector came loose, or you have some wires getting burnt or melted. Check the easy stuff first! If its not that, you may need a new sensor...

Since it is a new rebuild with few miles, you might want to check the cam sprocket bolts. Did you use loc-tite on them? If they back out a little it can cause the reluctor on the end of the cam to mis-align with the cam sensor. Also cam sensor codes on a 98 would be P0341, P0342, and P0343.

yes the codes were the p0341 and p0343. and it wouldnt be the bolts cuz everything has loc tite and torqued down to specs
