Default snap on scanner gets "no communication" from pcm

So I have all my stuff wired up to go, only thing I don't have is the fuel tank mounted. So I decided to try to pcm with my dad's diagnostic scanner...but it just comes up with "waiting..." then "no communication"

bad pcm? locked pcm? any other ideas?

I went back over all my wiring and found nothing wrong with my harness, but I did remember on my way back to Fayetteville that the battery wasn't grounded to the engine, just the body. But I had the 3 grounds that run to the back of the head grounded direct to the battery anyway so I don't know it that makes a difference.

The power wires to the pcm were getting 12.7 volts when I checked them

I would say you might be missing power at the obd2 plug, OR you dont have ignition going to the computer correct. OR you have the wrong obd2 diagnostic wire pin on your obd2 plug. It needs to have 1 all time battery going to pin 16, 2 grounds on pin 4 and 5. And then the obd2 from pin 58 of the ecm goes to 1 on the connector.

A locked ecm will still show scan tool info. A locked ecm just makes it so you cant read out the tune itself or write to it.

thanks, I have power to the odb2 port for sure, and like I said I checked the power and grounds with a volt meter and continuity meter respectively and they checked out ok

but while your watching, could you pm me for an estimate on a mail order tune? would you be able to use my computer as a core or tell me if its bad?
