RAGE's Transformation
this thread will be about my 2000 firebird (v6 3.8 y87 and w68 package) transformation. this will take some time to do. due to money going to be spent. this car os my daily and only car now.
here is a link to a thred on onother forum, about the story of my car up to today. http://api.viglink.com/api/click?for...13744803769897
now that being said. my plans for this car is to be a drifting car and maybe drive it on a daily.
things that need to be done are:
1. a ls1 swap
2. suspension set up
3. weight reduction
4.brakes
1. as for the ls swap i have been doing research on this. since it is a y87. i have read that the rear end does no have to be swapped out. nor does the steering rack and drive shaft. (correct me if i am wrong)
also people have told me it is better to buy a wrecked t/a or camaro and just transfer everything over. than it is to piece it together.
if i piece it together the research i have done told me that i can get an ls engine from the newer truck and not worry about high mileage engine. just buy all of the accessories(brackest, steering pump, water pump, intake fuel injector and rails, ect.) sell the old ones and it would just produce 10 less hp and wont be a true f-body engine. the wiring harness also can come from a ls equipped truck just wire all the pin outs and stuff correctly. the tranny would have to be the t56 maybe rebuild and put a better clutch to last with the abuse it will go through and convert my a4 to a m6. with the pedals , clutch reservoir you know the stuff needed to do the a4 to m6 conversion. and just plug up the pcm from a m6 car.fuel pump is ok. does all of this sound right?
2. suspension set up
it will be lowered about 1.5 in all around , get a strut brace. have adjustable pan hard bar. maybe upgraded lower control arms. all bushings will be replaced.and sway bars. bilsten hd shocks. maybe sub frame connectors
3. weight reduction.
the back seats will go out, spare tire out, replace the seats with some more light weight ones and get a different steering wheel. door panels might go out also
exterior: try to find some light weight wheels, light weight k-member and lower and upper control arms if it is worth it. an aftermarket fire hawk hood also
4.brakes
a flush will be done , the front brakes will be upgraded to the trans am ones. and new rotors along with brake pads front and rear. the e-brake will be modified to lock up the rear wheels(still working on this)
that's about all i can remember right now. please comment if you have some concerns. or questions.
