Default 2000 WS6 build

I decided to make a build thread to help myself keep track of the work I do on the car. I bought the car on May 4, 2013 with the intentions on slowly building it throughout the year, but that was postponed because I took up bracket racing in my other car. The car had no interior, windshield, wiring, or any drivetrain whatsoever and the only modifications were basically a VFN 5" hood and tubular front suspension.

My goal for the car is to have it completely finished and tuned by the middle or end of April. I plan to bracket race it in the Pro class locally and will be traveling to all of the LSX series races to race in the Rumble class for this year.

*05/04/13*
Purchased 2000 WS6 with 20k original miles

*11/19/13*
Bought a wrecked 2004 GTO with a 408ci stroker for the engine and began to part out the car.

*12/09/13*
I got the engine taken out of the GTO and put onto a stand to prepare for cleaning and upgrades.

*12/16/13*
Bought a ATI 10% underdriven damper to replace the SLP one on the engine.

*01/05/14*
Went to a swap meet with a few buddies and came across a built TH400.

*01/20/14*
I took all of the accessories off of the engine and decided to clean and paint it. I painted the engine Pontiac Blue Metallic as a tribute to the first gen. Firebirds and other early Pontiacs.

After cleaning

After paint

*01/29/14*
Bought a painted 102mm Holley Hi-ram intake and a brand new, complete F-body oil pan. I didn't like the way the oil pan was cast from the factory on the inside, so I decided I would take a little bit of time to smooth it out.

*01/30/14*
I have been wanting a set of "Pontiac" LS valve covers, but they are impossible to find. I decided that I would take the factory valve covers and make them look very similar for a fraction of the cost. I started out by cutting off the coil brackets but I ran out of time and wasn't able to smooth the covers.

You did good by buying a doner car and keeping the engine and accesories.

Thanks! I'm excited and ready for it to be done and going down the track.

Things will be pretty slow in this thread for now since I can't do much work until I have the cage installed.

Yea, I was originally planning on putting the LS1 that I built from my other car into this car but came across the GTO for a price I couldn't pass up. At this point I have broken even plus some after parting out the car and keeping the engine, but I still have a few more parts from it.

Lookin great so far. That was a good idea buying the donor car. Good luck with your build!
