Default Speedo?

Ok, have an issue. The mph gauge isn't working on the speedo. Everything else is. All fuses are good and I replaced the sensor by the tranny. I know there is a sensor on the rear too...still isn't working. Will the sensor on the rear make a difference or am I missing something else? Anyone have this issue before?

Are the ABS sensors working on the front hubs? I know the speedo still works with only 1 malfunctioning/dead, but I don't know what it would do if both of them are done for. Check out that rear end sensor too.

It could also be the stepper motor for the speedo itself. If your front ABS sensors are good, I would start pulling apart the dash to inspect it all and see if its even hooked up.

Does this code look familiar? This is what it's saying.

I really appreciate the feedback Kevin

I'll be honest, I have no clue what the hell I'm looking at. A reader than can read ABS codes will be able to tell you if the front sensors are good or not. That said, if you don't have a "ABS INOP" warning light on your dash, then theres probably no issue with the ABS sensors in the hubs.

Did you check out the sensor on the rear?

Just to clarify, I don't know for certain if the ABS sensors actually have any effect on the speedo. I would imagine that they have to monitor the wheel's speed to some degree in order to make the ABS work effectively and I've heard once or twice that it can have an effect on the speedo in our cars, but I'm no mechanic or expert by any means.

The ABS sensors only serve their ABS Module master. The Speedometer signal will come from the PCM, I recall.

Does your scan tool show the speed and PRM correctly when you drive? If so, it's not a sensor or module issue.

This post is for a friend, he says that the snap on scanner is saying engine control module, which is the computer right?

ECU is the engine computer, but I interpret the picture above to be the tool saying just that there IS one engine computer installed, which would be a normal thing.
