Poor performance, smoking
2002 Firebird 3.8 V-6
127k miles
A few days ago while going up a hill my engine performance started cutting out.
When i parked i noticed significant smoke coming from the tailpipe. white smoke.
the engine will run steady at idle and at low RPM but when accelerating too fast the engine seems to bog way down.
The system is not giving a check engine or any codes at all.
I checked the coolant and the oil, no mixing happening. the car is also not overheating. on Physical inspection, there are no leaks, spark plugs wires are all secure. I cannot see any bent , frayed, or deteriorated wiring connections. It doesn't seem to be misfiring, as best i can tell by listening or feeling the exhaust, however even in park when i give it gas it smokes.
I noticed for a bout a week prior when i would first start the car something was making a tin sounding rattle, like a the sound a loose manifold guard makes that would subside after the car heated up, however it sounds like its under the car. Could be just rattling due to running rough, not sure.
I am not a mechanic by any means as you can most likely tell. So any input ya'll could provide (things to check) would be greatly appreciated. I bought the car for a steal last year and i plan to keep it for a long, LONG time. Please help me become a better Firebird owner PLEASE!
