Replace lever
There is a plastic cover that pops off the back of the column so you can access the electrical plug. Then the lever just pulls out of column.
Beware... the lever sockets in to a piece of plastic, which gets brittle with age and can break on you. If it does, it's a huge repair... There's no way to escape it, if you need to change this part. If the socket is going to break, it's going to break.
This video shows good technique on the lever removal. Our wire is different (much easier), but it will show you a good way to pull:

Hi wssix99,
I replaced succesfull the lever like they did in the movie. You do not need to pop off the backcover. That signal cable is long enough to replace that lever without removing that cover.
