Default Model Question

I'm having trouble understanding what exactly my car is. The vin comes up formula and the door sticker has the ws6 and ws9 code along with all the trans am and ws6 badging. But nothing comes up about it being a trans am also. It's a 2002. So is it a formula, firebird, trans am ws6.

The VIN number will categorize all the V8 Firebirds of this era as "Formulas". Trans Am designation will not be found in the VIN.

If you own the car, it's pretty obvious if you have a Trans Am because the bumper covers (front and rear) will be different, along with the side skirts (ground effects) and spoiler (coupe), in addition to all the various badging.

But the ultimate way to know how the car was actually born is to look at the SPID (Service Parts Identification) sticker on the driver's door jamb. WS6 & WS9 won't help determine Formula vs. Trans Am (although techically it would for a 2002, as there was no longer a WS6 Formula after the year 2000). What you need to look for is W66 (Formula) or Y82 (Trans Am Coupe - I think the Convertibles were Y84).
