Default VIN question

I have a question for you guys. When I went to the dealer to get some touch up paint I gave him my VIN number and he told me that my formula was white. Well I'm not an expert but my car is definetly black. So I'm figureing either the VIN was wrong, or for some reason the previous owner decided to have the car completly re-painted( there is no evidence anywhere that the car was once white). Are there any websites or something that I could type my VIN number into and it will give me info about my car?? I'm just curious to see.

VIN doesn't have anything to do with paint; but at a GM dealership, they can use the VIN to look up GM's records on the car. No way to access those online... you could try asking the dealership to print out a copy for you

www.phs-online.com might be able to set things straight too. I believe they now go up to at least the 2000 model year (at least their window stickers do).
