78 interior help

78 interior help Hey, I'm new to the forum. I recently got a 78 that I am doing a complete restoration on, and I am working on stripping the interior at the moment. Any clue on how to take out the middle console so that I can finish tearing up the carpet?

now for your question. To remove the consol:
Open the consol pocket lid unscrew the box (if you look on the bottom there are 2 screws)
if you have an automatic you need to take off the shift head to do this take off the button (screw driver) and there is a C clip on the post sticking up you need some pliers to open up this c clip and take it out and the head should fall off.
with that look under the dash / top of console and you will see 2 nuts mounting the console to the dash one on driver one on passenger lift the back of the consol up and pull out and you are good!

Your restoring the car and can't figure out how to get the center console out? I think I could take apart and put back together a 2nd in my sleep. Lord knows I turned enough wrenches on them. I miss them all.

ya thats one thing i really noticed in my expirence with this car. everything is one or two screws and very badly designed engineering (prolly good for the time).
and no to mention how you can stick your head all the way to the ground through the engine compartment!!
