Question Which one is faster?

I have a choice of getting a 2002 trans am limited addition with hurst shifter, borla exhaust, and k&n filter, or a 2004 GTO that is stock. Can anybody out there share some input? ALso, which one is faster and has more power?

thanks

The GTO is heavy therefore affecting it's performance. I myself would go with the T/A it most likely would be a little quicker. Now if you can bump up a year on the GTO as in a '05 with the 6.0 that would give you more performance than the '04 with the 5.7

The T/A is about 400 lbs lighter... same motor. The GTO is also going to lose some power from the IRS rear end. The T/A would clearly be the faster of the two.

T/A is faster but the GTO has a sweet interior and better overall ride. I personally thing the GTO is ugly!

I would definately go with the T.A. It would be faster and to me is much better looking.

What he said... if I had the cash to mod an 04... I would - and enjoy a much 'nicer' all-around car... but if you want to know which one would smack the other around at the drag strip, the T/A will.

T/A is going to be faster like already said. If all you want is badass looking car w/great performance go with the T/A, If you want a fast car that has a nicer interior and smoother ride then go with the GTO.

Great track warrior = T/A

I also have to agree and say get the WS6. The one thing i do like about the GTO's is the exhaust. The LS2 sounds alot better than the LS1.

You mentioned "limited edition Trans-Am". What kind is it?

I'd personally get the GTO. They are so posh inside and you can put a Magnusen (roots type)blower on it and be pretty stout. There are a few tricks you can do to take 100 lbs off the GTO easily.

If it was a Firehawk or something I'd get the T/A, but then I wouldn't daily drive a Firehawk or Blackbird. If your going to drive it everyday I'd get the GTO hands down. The little bit faster the 'bird is won't make up for the difference in driver comfort. You can always make almost any car fast, It's hard to make them feel and ride like a Mercedes Benz, which the GTO's ride is similar to.

hey jakef77, i just sold a 2004 gto. blue on blue m6. no doubt it is an awesome daily driver but performance wise, i had to sell it. there were many reason besides weight and the irs rear. other reasons were mod parts were way too expensive for me and it didn't have that mean sport car look to it.

anyway, i just bought a 2002 m6 trans am and i love it! it is stock and it runs harder than my gto. my gto ran very strong from roll. hope this helps, good luck...

I like the looks of the 05 GTO but the 04 cant touch the performance or looks of a WS6

if you want to get a gto , i would wait till next year to see if they are putting out any more power, i have heard rumors of a big block being put in a pontiac vehicle , so i would wait to see if the rumors are true, i've seen stock gtos run , and they arnt bad, but they are 6.0L , so it wasent what i had expected, i think its really prefernce on apperance , you can make either vehicle run faster and do ungodly speeds

The Trans Am isnt being made anymore, plus 2002 is last year they made them, so its going to be a collector one day and a piece of history. Especially since its "limited edition". Go T/A. Once you go 'bird, you never go back .

It really comes down to how you will use the vehicle. Like people are saying, if you are picking a daily driver, go for the GTO. Weekends or nice days, then the Trans Am, especailly if it is a special edition like a CETA, like 99FormulaM6 mentioned.
