96 T/A 6 speed
I have a chance to buy a '96 trans am with under 30,000 miles on it. It is in imaculant condition and has never seen winter. Always garaged and this is the original owner. Also the car has t-tops and leather interior, new tires. All stock, no mods whatsoever. Well he wants 12,900 for which is way out of line. I think he seems to think it a collector car or something? I dont know, anyway he is asking way to much. The books say 7-8.5k. I think I will offer him 9k and see what he says. How much would you pay for a car like this?
If it has 30k miles after all this time, that car deserves to be treated with the same care if you're the next owner.
Hell if I was him I'd keep the price way high. Only a serious enthusiast (who will worship the car) will pay for it because they know it's worth it.
That car probably sold for 25k new. Suppose the car was one year old with 30k miles on it.... Would you pay 12.5k? Hell fuggin' yes you would!!!
The *book* value may be 7k, but it's worth a hell of lot more in the overall scope of things.

Anyways, that's a nice ride, but f you just want a driver you can buy a newer LS1 car with double the miles for 10k.
Look in the "Vehicle Classified" section on this site and you'll be suprised at what is available for 10k.

According to Standard Catalog of Firebird listings:
Trans Am - $21,414
T-top - option CC1 - $970
Leather would have to be known if it has articulating buckets, and if so add another $829. This is not counting any other options like power windows, power door locks, remote mirrors, etc etc. So the $25K original sticker suggestion isn't high, and for a car averaging 3,000 miles a year in pristine condition, the $12,900 price isn't too high either, IMHO
If you don't think it's worth it, don't pay it and find another one.
