Default Door Panel Cracks and Polarized Light

I noticed something interesting yesterday and thought I'd pass it on.

My door panels are not cracked yet, and I just got done reinforcing them, so hopefully they won't. But I was wearing my polarized shades yesterday and discovered that I can see about a 1/4" wide line exactly where these panels crack. It is lighter in color than the surrounding material and runs from the window to the padded area on both door panels. Without the shades, these lines are invisible.

My panels are the tan color, so I don't know if the lines would be visible on the other colors. But I thought I'd pass on the information. It would be very interesting to look at some new, unused panels this way and see if it was from the manufacturing or is stress related.

And yes, I know this thread is pretty well worthless without pics, but I don't have a polarized filter for my camera. I'll see next week if I can come up with something.

Neat find.

How did you reinforce the area? Fiberglass cloth and resin? ~Joshua

No, nothing so nicely done. And I do think that fiberglass would be very good solution.

What I did:
For each panel, I took two pieces of hard plastic about 1/2" wide x 5" long by 1/4" thick. I epoxied those to the back of the panel. I then added more epoxy to make the whole area thicker.

Any chance you have a picture or 2 to share for the reinforcement?

yes pics would be very nice. i have one cracked panel but if i cna prevent the other from cracking it would be great. The ultimate solution thoguh is someone making aftermarket panels that wont crack there.

Sorry, I was away for a few days.

I don't have any pictures of the reinforcing I did.
