engine swap
hey guys, well i was looking around and i found a 98 3.8l firebird the thing is it needs a new motor, and well i recked my 97 3.8l i was thinking could i just swap my engine out of the 97 right into the 98 with out any probmles. i mean both cars are set up for a 3.8l so they should just be as easy as swap in swap out right? the only thing im worried about is that since the body style changed that it wont fit but i dont no so can u guys help me out here
i can't see any reason it would not work. they are pretty much the same motor. the lt1 bowed out for the ls1 that year but i don't think the 3.8 gm motor did. you may be asking on the wrong website. most on this site have v8's
The throttel bodys are different. Ones slanted as the other is not. It should fit no problem, gain a coulple of horses straighting up that whole intake (lid to the manifold). Also, in 2000 they swiched to Tubeler headers. Which gave a few more Horses/sound. It should fit no problem, Might as well get pace setter headers and look up abboit raceing and get some heads and intake ( The sponsered car has a stage three/ 275 hp to the ground/ some odd 300 torqe.) Look up www.firebirdV6.com Perferct site for the 3.8 and the 3.4. Some guys are running close to 450hp to the ground with a few mods.

A heavy cammed and stage 3 headed LS1 with all boltons through a 6-speed tranny makes 450-460 rwhp.
I sure as hell don't see a 6 pack doing that even with a full bolt on/cam/head set up. If so there aren't more than a couple of those "freaks" in all of the United States.
A few mods.
