well i bought a junkyard firebird about 3 years ago, probly worst thing ive ever bought but it ran and i thought it was cool, somewhere down the line i got way too attached, and decided instead of buying something else id build it up, so last year was a junk, tired 383 stroker on the can, this year i had the money , had some body work done, found out i cracked the frame on both sides, so its going through a little frame work right now, with new tranny, new motor, and a few little toys, here are some pics of the progress.

that is with recent bodywork, needs some small adjustments, but cant be done till after the frame is worked out so should be done someday this fall.

 

I love the '74-'76 front ends though they're not very popular with the masses.

Very nice ride! Its almost time for mine to start going though the same thing yours did. Mind if I ask what you payed to have the quarters done?

 

well, i had a buddy do it for me, prepped the whole car, did everything but sand it, replaced one quarter, fixed the other, cost me about 1k, plus the new quarter.


ive had better work done but you get what you pay for.

 

Brings back memories of my '76 455-4sp T/A. 2nd only to the '73 as best looking 2nd gen IMO, I hated the square headlamps in the '77-'78 and the '79+ front & bumpers looked goofy. It was kinda beat when I bought it in '86, bald tires and no exhaust after the single cat. I got 'er fixed up and put about 11,000 miles on it in the next year before I slid head-on into another car on wet pavement hot ******* it around a corner (DOH!). Front clip was smashed, bent the subframe, but nothing behind the firewall was damaged beyond repair. Insurance paid it off. Pulled it behind my garage under it's own power (sans radiator) and parked it. Got new hood, fenders, bumper, grille and subframe to install. But I never got around to working on it, sat until '99 when I sold it and all parts to a buddy who turned it for a small profit. Some day I hope to have another 455 T/A.

 

Good luck with your project!! '76 is nice. Just put a real Pontiac motor in and you're set!!! 455 would be a lot more fun - torque is where it's at!!

 

Just sold my 76 Formula last week. I owned it since 1994.
1976 is my favorite year for sure, I am already regretting not keeping it.

 

That hood was only made for 1 year. You dont
see many, as most guys have TAs.

The hood and front end is why I loved my 76 Formula. It was unique. Although most people wanted to call it a camaro b/c of the headlights.
The header panel, front bumper and honeycomb grills are 76 yr only also.
