Default Missing the Mark

Recently, I've read a few posts from car salesmen in various forums standing behind their shady sales practices. They say that their job is to make the most money possible from every sale. I don't have a problem with the dealer making a profit.

When a salesman can convince me that I need something, that's a good salesman. However, when a salesman lies and deceives you into paying more, he's simply a liar and a cheat. At that point, it has nothing to do with salesmanship and everything to do with being a scumbag. I'm very surprised that some of these scumbags make it without getting their *** kicked.

My point is this. If you are a first time car buyer, read everything, ask why about everything, and take their word for nothing. The scumbags are out there, literally waiting for you like vultures. If given the chance, they will rape you, chew you up and spit you out. After you leave they will be giving each other the high five and laughing their asses off at your expense.

I like to think this is a small percentage of salesmen. Many are good people. However, I've seen a few bad ones myself and I want you to have your eyes wide open when you make a deal and question everything that you don't understand fully. When they say "Oh, we have to do this in order to make such and such work," red flags should go up. Make them explain exactly why in detail and take their word for nothing. If you are young or a female this is especially true. I've written enough. Someone else can post some of their scumbag tactics.

Go forth and get a good deal.

Knowing what you want and how much you want to pay help to avoid this. Personally I've never bought a car without an employee / supplier discount which may not be the absolute best deal you can get, but usually beats 75% and saves the hassle and aggravation.
Also, surprisingly enough, buying above your means makes you more likely to be taken.

I don't like car salesman. It's been 3 1/2 years since I purchased a new car, and after my last three attempts to purchase a car, I don't think it will happen again anytime soon.

I've always had great experiences with private sales. I may stick with that. -Gabe

That is funny Gabe, I use to sale Honda's. I use to be the person the was high fiving and just happy that I made some money, it amazes me that you think that it is alright that the dealership can make money but not the salesperson, why don't you go and sale cars, and actually see how much they really get paid, If you sale the car at invoice or back of it, you make ****, well okay $100, Well okay how many cars you think a sales person sales a month, say 15 is a good sales person, and sometimes less then that, well you think they thrive on 1500, while the dealership makes all the money, and you wounder why the sales people are not scruplouse. Well the sales person has a family and home to pay for two, and the only way to make money on a car is to sell it for a nice profit for the dealership, or hold on the trade in , then you get 15% of what the gross profit is, minus PAC, which is normaly around $500 could be more. so lets say for example you gross 2000 - 500= 1500 * .15=225 well that is worth spending my time and selling a car, how many tire kickers in a month do you think that sales person sees in a month??? Hell ya if I am selling cars, your right I will rip your head off, if you let me, that is my job, and I am very good at it, sales in general. So after you decide which car you want then you go to finance, if you don't have your own, and they will try and sell you things to, and then they will rape you more on the rate than you know. I don't hold anything on anyone that is trying to make a buck, it is your own fault that you didn't do the research and came in and bought a car for two much.

If you want a deal, pick out a car, and either call Fleet, or get on the internet, and email a bunch of dealerships, and make a deal that way, that is the best way to buy a car. You do need to see what all they put in the paper work to, but the bottom line is what matters, so ask for a drive out price. then compair one to the other. This way you don't feel like you got screwed, if someone leaves the dealership with a smile and I get paid well then everyone was happy, they got what they wanted and I get paid, so what is wrong with that.

I have seen sales people do some crazy stuff, and they made a lot of money, but you can only blame that on the dealership, cause of the way we get paid. Would you want to be the sales person making 1500 or the one that makes 5000, you make your choice.

I agree with JET, if you get screwed it is your own fault for not doing your homework.

Thank you, I think the same way, if you don't shop around and you make a deal without knowledge then it is your own fault for not doing your homework, and you can only blame yourself.
