Default Educate me.

I've been looking to get rid of my Lightning and get something else. A new GTO is on the list.

So how do you like your GTO?

What kind of power are you getting out of bolt on's? (Cams, heads, ect)

THanks in advance!

Love it, haven't dynoed it since the mods but I'm expecting close to 400 WRHP once my cam is in. Check out www.ls1gto.com if you want lots of info specific to the goat.

At least one guy is going 11's around here, mostly stock with a friendly power adder on his 04. I went close to 12's on street tires over the summer (fall really) when weather was decent in my stock 05. Bunch of people at LS1GTO/LS2GTO going 11's and better on motor, boost, spray, whatever... Few cars going 10's, couple even in the 9's on big boost.

That's exactly what I did. Sold my 03 Lightning and bought a new 05 GTO. Love the car. I have a twin turbo 402 going together for it right now.

I had a 2002 Pontiac Firehawk Trans-AM. It was pretty sweet, but I have to say that I like my GTO alot better. It is a much nicer car. Less body flex and noise, and definately a nicer and more feature rich interior.

Good power, fun to drive. The transmission shifts easier and makes driving the car in heavy traffic less of a chore than the Firehawk was. The Goat isn't my daily driver, but in Dallas you still have to deal with bumper to bumper traffic from time to time.

I test drove a 2004 and I LOVED IT. I knew the 2005 was comming out, and would have the LS2. I also knew that the time to buy one wasn't right. I did manage to pick up mine soon enough. I just got it on Tuesday night. I couldn't be happier with it. I even look for excuses to go places in it.

They are pretty sweet. You can get a 05 M6 with full bolt-ons, cam, and tune and put down 430ish whp. Can't beat that.

I like my 2005 with A4 a lot. No dyno yet; but I'm running low 12s with a 125 dry shot on a basically stock engine.

My GTO buddies will probably not like seeing this; but the car still leaves some things to be desired. The narrow wheelwells don't allow you to get a lot of rubber on the ground, so the car is extremely difficult to launch. Narrow tires and IRS contribute to a lot of wheelspin (often with wheelhop). Most GTO owners would kill for a 1.8 60' time. Those few that have found a way to make it hook up are finding that the drivetrain is suspect. Drive shaft and axle stub failures are fairly common once the car gets into the 11s. The M6 cars seem to have more problems than the A4s in this respect.

If you are looking for a streetable car that will run reliable 12s, the GTO is a great choice. If faster 1/4 mile passes on a regular basis is your priority, there are probably better choices for you.

I will probably be banned from the GTO community for this post; but it is an honest, no BS answer.

Probably not. You pointed out the short comings of the GTO and didn't say anything that isn't true. I don't think anyone will argue any of them with you. Yes, the GTO is not a drag car. However, it is a helluva street car and it will carve corners with most anything on the street. It is a true GT (grand touring).

I can see the GTO not being the best drag car. I did some corner carving tonight and the GTO actually handles alot better than I thought it would have. Even comparing it to my old Firehawk.

I managed to get rid of the wheelhop/squat both on the street and dragstrip. I now need to mount my DRs and linelock so I can see what 60" I can get down to.

I did a big list of recommended mods, but the best was 150% rear stock height springs and Koni shocks. The springs eliminated the rear end squat so my car stopped doing the pogo effect.

Nope, your dead on! I've said before that this car is the PERFECT DAILY Driver/Hot rod but its not the BEST choice for the track biased individual. However, I think if you get an auto, it does help you overcome some of those issue. Nothing like a good stall to change the personality.

Well, I am very happy with my car. My goal is to have a good all round 500rwhp daily driver. I am almost there, with my next tune I expect to hit the mark. I can get more power out of it but am not ready to put a forged bottom end in yet. You can see my mods in sig, I am happy with all of them. If you are in SoCal come by and drive it.

Given the price you can get a GTO for it has to be one of the all time best values for a rear wheel drive V-8 coupe. I paid under 26K for mine, new. You will like it and there are endless mods available for it.
