So how do you like your GTO?
What kind of power are you getting out of bolt on's? (Cams, heads, ect)
THanks in advance!

That's exactly what I did. Sold my 03 Lightning and bought a new 05 GTO. Love the car. I have a twin turbo 402 going together for it right now.

Good power, fun to drive. The transmission shifts easier and makes driving the car in heavy traffic less of a chore than the Firehawk was. The Goat isn't my daily driver, but in Dallas you still have to deal with bumper to bumper traffic from time to time.
I test drove a 2004 and I LOVED IT. I knew the 2005 was comming out, and would have the LS2. I also knew that the time to buy one wasn't right. I did manage to pick up mine soon enough. I just got it on Tuesday night. I couldn't be happier with it. I even look for excuses to go places in it.

My GTO buddies will probably not like seeing this; but the car still leaves some things to be desired. The narrow wheelwells don't allow you to get a lot of rubber on the ground, so the car is extremely difficult to launch. Narrow tires and IRS contribute to a lot of wheelspin (often with wheelhop). Most GTO owners would kill for a 1.8 60' time. Those few that have found a way to make it hook up are finding that the drivetrain is suspect. Drive shaft and axle stub failures are fairly common once the car gets into the 11s. The M6 cars seem to have more problems than the A4s in this respect.
If you are looking for a streetable car that will run reliable 12s, the GTO is a great choice. If faster 1/4 mile passes on a regular basis is your priority, there are probably better choices for you.
I will probably be banned from the GTO community for this post; but it is an honest, no BS answer.

You pointed out the short comings of the GTO and didn't say anything that isn't true. I don't think anyone will argue any of them with you. Yes, the GTO is not a drag car. However, it is a helluva street car and it will carve corners with most anything on the street. It is a true GT (grand touring).

I did a big list of recommended mods, but the best was 150% rear stock height springs and Koni shocks. The springs eliminated the rear end squat so my car stopped doing the pogo effect.

Given the price you can get a GTO for it has to be one of the all time best values for a rear wheel drive V-8 coupe. I paid under 26K for mine, new. You will like it and there are endless mods available for it.
