Default basic info on GTOs

There's no stickies for this section.

I just have some basic questions on GTOs. Probably just pointing me in the direction of a link or something would suffice. I'm looking for displacement, intake, cam and head, weight, suspension, wheel/tires info for factory GTOs. Also, what exactly is DOD? Did it come on goats?

2004 was the LS1, 05-06 are the LS2, google it and you can get all the specs.

Weight is somewhere between 3750-3800.

DOD = displacement on demand, and nope, never came on the GTO.

Displacement for the 04 is 5.7 liter and the 05/06 is 6.0 liter. The 04 is a LS6 intake. The 05/06 throttle bottle is drive by wire. The 04 uses casting # 241 heads while the 05/06 uses casting # 243.

LS1 = 346 ci
LS2 = 364 ci

The LS1 uses normal 241 casting heads and a relatively tiny cam. The LS2 uses 243 casting heads (factory LS6 heads, better flow) and a slightly larger cam.

Before I lightened it up a little, mine weighed in at 3690 pounds without driver and with about a third of a tank of fuel.

wheels were either standard 17x8 with 245/45/17 BFGs or optional 18x8s with softer 235/40/18 bridgestones.

there were a small handful of LS2s that suffered catastrophic failure from A LOT of oil consumption. However, the overwhelming majority either don't use any, or use a little here and there, but are within spec. (similar to LS1s)

'04 LS1 is the same as the '01-02 F-Body, right down to the cam.
'05-'06 LS2 is basically a '01 LS6 but with a different intake and bigger displacement.

My '04 weighed in at 3760(without me) when it was stock. Nothing taken out of it and a little less than a 1/2 tank of gas.

No, the oil consumption issue was more pronounced with LS2's.

Nothing drastic...

the car was 3690 when stock, (no driver, 1/3 tank).

- pulled y-brace (saves 13 pounds)
- lightweight HSV skidplate (saves 12 pounds)
- Boyd F22 wheels (saves 8 pounds at each corner)
- pulled jack/spare/chocks (saves 30-35 pounds, i didn't weight that stuff exactly)
- Exhaust mods (longtubes in place of stock manifolds, resonator replaced with X-pipe, magnaflow muffs which were NOTICEABLY lighter than the stockers, conservatively estimated at 10-15 pounds total savings for these.

overall total = savings of 97-107 pounds or so.

I rounded it out and called it 3600 even with no driver and same fuel level. I myself am the best weight reduction as I'm only 150 pounds.

I'll double check when I can get a chance to get the car back over to the scale I weighed it on when it was stock, but the above math is pretty reasonable.
