Default rim and tire question

I currently have a 2002 Pewter Z28 M6, with a 402... Has a lot more torque than my previous 346 (obvioulsy) and is really throwing my rearend around, even at part throttle...

before my car was down for the past year ( in 2008) , while I prepared the new motor.... I have taken it road racing before a couple of times and was planning on road racing it 2 - 3 times a year).. Its a daily driver and Im sure I will come upon races in the street, which Ill take.. I do spirited driving in my car from time to time, despite it being my DD... I Also do drag race this car and I do have separate bogarts with slicks for that application, that I run ONLY when I drag race it...

I have 245/50 16 snowflakes and have Nitto NT01s on the rear and 245/50 16Bf goodrich on the front..., this is what I drive the car with everywhere..

I also just recently purchased c4 sawblades that are 17x9.5" wide.. I know these are wider than my Z28 snowflakes, which I only run a 245 on, and have ran 255s on once before..

Now what shall I do??

#1 Use my Sawblades for my road racing rims and get slicks on them and use my snowflakes as my DD rims?? - I think this is the route id wanna go, since I want my car to appear pretty stock on the streets, but I can never get a good launch on the streets either... thats my only issue with this option. I dont have traction with these skinny rims, in 1st or even 2nd at WOT sometimes, as well as when I take corners fast and give partial throttle..

or

#2 Use my snowflakes as my roadrace wheels and get slicks on them (would 245s be wide enough to grip the track, with slicks?).. and use the sawblades as my DD rims.. the only disadvantage is, they may be heavier than the snowflakes, and tires are probably gonna be quite expensive compared to the 245s...( I have a feeling I will wear out my Daily driver tires pretty quickly, based on my experiences)...

What do you think is the best option for me?

Also what size wheel is recommended for the sawblades?

If it makes you feel any better 275/40/17s are so common now they are actually pretty inexpensive. If budget is an issue buy one set of high quality tires that you can run on the street and track, say like ~200 tread-wares. Maybe some Falken 615s, Toyos, or new Nitto NT-05s.

Its a nice convenience to not need to swap out rims at the track. Plus your seat time at the track will directly help you know your limits on the street (so you can stay away from them).

I've always run street tires, but I've read over and over that slicks will mask driving errors at the track. Yet another reason for street tires on the road course.

Well... regardless, Id still rather run some regular street tires on the street, and Id wanna run something stickier at the track.. They DONT have to be slicks, but something better than Nitto NT-01s...

Also I just wanted to know, if I should stay w 245s on the street and run 275s on the track, or would the other way around be fine?? because regardless of teh size I decide to run, the stickier tire will be used at the track

I think I already know what Im gonna do.. Keep the snowflake 245s on the street and run the sawblades at the roadcourse.

BUT!!! I still wanna hear what experienced road racers will recommend me...

Swapping tires is not too big of deal once you get the hang of it. I can change all 4 in less than 15 mins.

Slicks don't mask errors, they actually exaggerated them. A street tire will usually squeel and it approaches it's limit and it will usually be more progressive when it breaks away vs. a Road Race slick or a DOT race tire like a Hoosier A6.

However, you will more than likely get more track days out of a high end street tire than you will a dedicated slick or DOT

I know its no big deal.. But My rim sizes are both different.. I still think Im gonna go with the snowflakes as my DD(even though I cannot hook sometimes with them) and I probably will run Nitto 555rs again on them, ive really liked that tire as a DD..

Im gonna use the sawblades as my road race rims. and I will use some Slick on them or a DOT legal slick...

So I will look into Hoosier A6s or whatever else and Ill probably use that, or maybe even the Nt-01... but probably something a bit better than the NT-01..
