Default I need help in engine selection

I am putting a LS into my miata and need help selecting the right one for my application. I am going to be using the car not as a daily driver but as a track care and spirited weekend driving. When I am at the track I am hard on it so it has to be reliable.

I have two choices currently.

Choice #1 = Buy a LS2 Crate Engine

Choice #2 = Buy an engine from one of our sponsors here that is a reconditioned LS6 Block
LS6 3.905" Block
GM 3.622" Crankshaft
Callies Compstar 6.125" Forged Rods
Wiseco Pistons & Moly Rings
Clevite H-Series Bearings
ARP Main Studs
Internally Balanced Rotating Assembly
Double roller chain
LS2 intake
Used LS6 heads
Higer Cam for 400 RWH

My questions are which one is the way to go? I will not be running forced induction (ever). Is it better to go with brand new and the technology of the LS2 or the stronger internals with basically as LS6 with some used) For a road recreational track day application is the LS2 bullet proof or does it have weakness.

I don't know much about these engines for my application so I am reading as much as I can here and would really appreciate your help.

Thanks.

If you plan on modding the engine any I would get the ls2, as you would have more displacement which means more power

I am not looking for more power as 405 on a 2300 miata is more than enough. I am looking for reliability at rpm. An engine that is better suited to a road race course where it must do much RPM over a period of sustained time.

I'm far from an expert but I think you would be better off with the built LS6. The LS1 (don't know about LS2) is known to have oiling issues when under high G cornering loads. We put an extra quart of oil in to account for this. Have the LS6 modded to account for that. The only other issue I know of is the belt has a tendency to walk off the tensioner pulley. An aftermarket solid tensioner or a better pulley can account for that. You should end up with a very reliable engine. That's gonna be a fun car.

I would go with the LS2. I belive the LS2 flows oil through the block better than the LS1 or the LS6.

Sure the LS3 is nice but getting to expensive. The LS2 is 7K list here and the LS6 is 9K here. Not sure what a L3 is but guessing over 8K
