A floating rotor:
On a floating rotor braking system the caliper is part of the spindle and does not move (I bet you cant wait to have to buy one of these either). When braking instead of the caliper sliding on the pins the rotor will slide on the wheel studs, this is said to elimainate warped rotors and the dual disc systems are said to decrease stoping distance 60%.

How does it slide on the wheel studs when they are cinched down to 100ft/lbs?

I think I got the actual answer ... a 2 piece rotor.

I am currently running a 4 piston Brembo caliper (fixed) and a 1 piece rotor (fixed).

I had to shim the caliper to get proper alignment and angle to the rotor.
