Oil temp gauge issues. Ideas?

Oil temp gauge issues. Ideas? I just put an oil temp gauge and a ambient air temp gauge on the a pillar of my 02 ss. The air temp more for convienence, and the oil for info while road racing.
The shop swears they hooked up the oil temp sender to the oil adapter, but it reads within 2-3 degrees of the air temp and I'm pretty sure the oil does not cool off at night to 40 degrees while driving.
Any chance that the signal is mixing over in the wiring? Ideas?

I should have clarified...oil filter adapter-at the oil filter location for the cooler. I tried the mocal unit and could not get it to work with the headers-clearence issues, Clarence.
I guess it could be a number of things other than the wiring ...
faulty sender
wrong sender
sender probe not emersed in the oil
no oil getting to the probe
Not familiar at all with the oil filter adaptor style. I've only used the port above the filter for cooler routing and my temp sensor was in the pan where the oil level sensor went.
