Oiling Question Hi all! I'm new to these forums, but already I've found a lot of useful information from you all.
My wife and I have started doing DE events again after a break for a few years. She has a 99 SS, and the last time out, one of the other F-Body people there mentioned that he'd heard of some problems with the oil pickups in the pan going dry in long corners (like turn 1 and 2 at TWS, if you're familiar with that track). He reccomended adding some additional oil to be on the safe side, but I'm a little leary of putting too much in since I don't know if the crank will start drowning in it.
I was wondering if any of you track-types had encounted oiling problems, and if so, what steps you took to remedy the situation.

At TWS in early June with The Driver's Edge group, I talked with a woman who was driving a Camaro ... never really paid attention to whether it was an SS or not, though.
Nice person, short hair ... she said she was having a great time ...

It was good to see another F-Body out there. I was in the white Trans AM.

Hey there! I'll bet anything that it was you. I remember the white Trans AM. Thanks for the link. 
Did you make any modifications to the pan, or are you just running 7 quarts and keeping an eye on the levels before runs?

I have plumbed in an oil cooler which takes about 1/2 qt. But, I run the regular filter, not that long thing that hangs below the oil pan. One off road excursion and the filter could be toast.
So, I installed a new filter and 6 qts. I ran the motor for a few minutes and let it sit for 10 minutes. I pulled the dipstick and marked it.
I added another qt, ran the motor and let it sit for 10 minutes and marked the stick for 7.
Because of my added capacity, I NEVER let it get BELOW that 7qt line.
At TWS that weekend, oil level wouldn't be AS critical because we were going clockwise ... 1 and 2 were long right handers. Counter clockwise would be a different story, though.
Your wife's name was Missy or Misty ... right? I never met you, though, did I?

That's right, her name is Misty. I was in a white 03 M3.
I hope we'll see you out at the track again soon, and I'll be sure to introduce myself. We'll be back at TWS with EDP on July 15th, PCA on Aug 28-29, and Driver's Edge in October. One of these days I have to make it up to MSR. I hear its fantastic.
Thanks again for the advice. The oil cooler sounds like a good idea and not too hard for a klutz like me to install. Of course, I think Misty half wants to blow her motor so we'd have an excuse to put in a stroker.
