Default Harness for the Z ??

I really want to put a harness in the car and am having trouble with a bar and what to do.

I have the LG bar, but this is what I am told....

......That harness bar does not work unless the seat has a provision for the belts to pass through the backrest like a racing seat. it would not be safe to use the way it is (the the belts going around the side of the seat. ) ....

So, what do you do with the Z??? Anything besides having to get racing seats?, which I will do sometime, but the expense for 2 right now for DE is a bummer!

I'm up the creek aren't I ?? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

Thanks !!
Beth

The driving schools that I've checked out (lapping days, etc) won't allow 4 or 5 point harnesses in a vehicle without a cage (Summit Point is one). This was demonstrated when they rolled an M3 last year and flattened the roof down to just above the top of the doors. If the driver and passenger would have had on a 4 point harness, they would not have been able to bend into the center of the car and would likely have suffered serious (fatal) injury. Just something to think about....however....you may want to check these out:

http://www.corbeau.com/brochure/index.shtml

http://www.corbeau.com/brochure/A4.shtml

Not free by any means....but those would probably work (for a somewhat reasonable price) if you need them.

Good luck.

OUCH is right !! Where did that happen on the track?

I understand about the harness and no bar. I really want to be in the seat....well, you know.

I did not know they did not allow a harness without a bar. We have seats and harness in the Z06 which attach to the camera mount and have not had anyone ever say anything. So far I'm talking about FATT, could that be the difference? Or that the car is a hard top?

I've been at many club events where they will allow a driver to have a 5 or 6 pt. harness without a roll bar or cage, but that doesn't mean I'd do it. Trackbird is right about the dangers.

A 5 pt. harness without a rollbar may be OK for autoxing and low speed events, but as soon as you're going full speed on a road course, anything can happen. Don't take that chance.

I think they went off in 3 and the driver tried to drive the car through the grass and back onto the track under power and eventually flipped it. This is as memory serves me....I actually saw about 4 pictures of this car after this happened. I had a friend at the track that weekend who knew about it and found it on the net to send to me. I'd skip the belts for now....just my thoughts....

Beth,

Will you be at the 12 hrs at the Point on May 31st? I'm coming in from Columbus, OH for the race (I've been to all of them except the first one). If so, we will usually be set up by the grandstands inside the main gate (carosel area). Look for the black 2002 Z-28 (lowered) and probably a white Neon as well and stop by and say hello (we spend all day grilling food at the track...if we can't be racing....we'll be eating).

To use a shoulder harness w/o seat guides means you need either an "H" design shoulder harness like this

<img src="http://www.ogracing.com/eshop/images/catalog/thumbnails//sp4122belt.jpg" alt=" - " />

or a shoulder harnes clip that "buckles" the 2 shoulder harness straps together.

The end result is to keep the shoulder restraints from sliding apart off to the sides.

The cautions and warnings by esteemed colleagues above warn about are true and real dangers. Be careful ...

Ok, I cancelled the harness bar and will just slide around in the seat be aware of not holding on with the steering wheel.
Last year I wore a leather jacket and leather pants.... yeah, at the track..... and it helped me stick to the leather seat better.

I'm not sure if we will be there the 31st but if we are I will catch up with you. We are doing the FATT 4/18.

Thanks guys!!!

Why not just do it right and get a Wolfe 4 point or 6 point roll bar? They aren't that expensive. Take it from me, you only need to survive one roll-over accident to be sold on roll bars. My neck took about 7 years to fully recover from the one I was in; and it could have been worse.
