Curiouse on road racing.
Curiouse on road racing. This has always interested me.. ive never done it. But i was wondering if anyone can inliten me on how or were i could try this? i live in sacramento C.A. any tracks near by? Also how does one go about racing in events..? Is there usually a cash entry fee? or do i play to much GT4?

Wanna Go Racing The two main main road racing associations are NASA (National Auto Sport Association) www.nasaproracing.com and SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) www.scca.org As stated you can do some open track events where you can take your street car on track at high speeds but with limited passing rules so people aren't diving on each other into corners. If then you decide to race be sure to pick up the rulebook of which association you wish to race with. In SCCA that book is called a GCR (General Competition Rules) which will tell you everything you need to know about getting into amateur racing. Racing involve schools and licensing processes but anyone can do it. Yes there are entry fees to racing. You pay to play at amateur level road racing and it is a blast. NASA HPDE is a blast. Sometimes crowded.... if you can go midweek it is totally worth it.
Before you go you need upgraded brake pads and I would highly suggest some R compound tires (Toyo RA-1 or MichPilotSportCups) or the best street tire you can afford. Bridgestone S-03's, BFG KD's etc.
Run 6.5 quarts of oil to prevent oil pump cavitation. I run 7 quarts of Redline Oil in an Fbody pan.
Thunderhill, Infineon (Sears Point), and Laguna Seca (hard on brakes) are the tracks they go to in NorCal.
