Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I know you can do the "black box" logging so you don't have to bring along a laptop, but can you still bring a laptop and have a friend log and watch while you drive just like when I used EFI Live?

Yes, EFILive V7 still has all the laptop based logging fetaures and virtual dashboard display as EFILive V6.
If you have V6 you can upgrade to V7 free and use it with your existing interface cable.

I want to go back to the original question of "EFILive . . . how do you like it? The scan and tune software and the FlashScan hardware are all integrated like hand in glove. I especially like the ability to use the scanner mapping features to adjust the VE Table, etc. I can log my WBAFR data using the same cell values as the VE table (RPM versus MAP) paste the AFR data in Excel, and come up with multipliers to bring them all back to the commanded AFR in about 5 minutes paste the new values back into the bin file, down load the file in under 30 seconds and I'm back out logging and my new AFR values are matching the Commanded AFR very closely. All of this happens very quickly and seamlessly without unplugging anything. The software is very visual and the sense of organization is excellent and easy to use.

I disabled closed loop and then disabled the MAF without unplugging anything and got the VE table right. Then I re-enabled the MAF and I'm working on PE adjustments next. Timing changes are easy, pasting tables from other vehicles is easy. I guess that my main words to describe FlashScan are easy and intuitive. My truck is now running extremely well!

It's by far the best utility I have ever seen and I have them all.

Hmmmm. I am confused (a natural state for me). I have been using EFILive since V 4. Great data logger. I use LS1Edit for tuning.

Does EFILive have a tuner now? What is it called? The website looks like it has about 7 new products each doing different things. Or is it one product doing 7 different functions?

Frankly I have been happy with LS1Edit as a tuning device and EFILive as a scanning/datalogger. But are there reasons now to go to another 300$ device when we already own the first $700 device?

Perry

Who hasn't done any tuning in anger for a year and a half, but with the new 402 on the way, will do so again soon.

there are several tuners now... HPT and EFI Live (flashscan) both offer tuning support

I used to use LS1 Edit .... I still can't sell my LS1 Edit cable for a decent price since it's PCM locked

I have LS1edit , HPtuners and EFILIVE Flashscan ,so I am very qualified to say the new Flashscan rocks - way better to use than any of my other tools - without it and the 2 bar program I would never have got my streetcar into the 10's and still get 14l/100 economy around town.

Support is awesome and I usually get a immediate reply and update if anything is required.

Datalogging is like all efilive product just awesome , especillaly all the new custom pids that are available as well as the wideband interface.

I have LS1 Edit and EFILive FlashScan and have worked with HP Tuners and from my experience FlashScan is much easier to use. The FlashScan is by far the best IMO.

Ill be keeping an eye on threads like this, i havent purchased a tuning program yet... but just by reading the threads, it will be a toss up between HPT and flashscan.

Does Flashscan support 2 bar MAP sensor tuning?

Yes flashscan does support true 2 bar tuning , Starr Performance and CHIPMASTER PERFORMANCE have been supplying true 2 bar tunes for about 2 years now and have been using Flashscan to tune them since it was released.

I think you misunderstand what true 2bar support is.
We allow you to run a 2bar MAP sensor in your vehicle without having to scale down values and go through the headache of having a mismatched VE table.

We actually EXTEND your VE table into your boost range as well as add other boost referenced tables to help you tune. If you do not extend your VE table you are reducing your resolution making your boost/fuel (VE Table) unreliable. HP Tuners does not reduce VE resolution with our 2bar product.

Also, we do not require you to send in your PCM to make these modifications for you. You can do the modifications yourself with our product.

Keith,

It seems to me that the topic for this thread is "EFILive Tuner . . . how do you like it?" Now it's obvious that HP Tuners and even LS1 Edit and TunerCat have valuable features and capabilities. However, if a thread is started about "HP Tuners . . . how do you like it?" and I (or anyone else) chooses to counter any user's comment that they like this or that about HP Tuners, then I'd be pretty obstructive to the openness of the discussion in this forum. Is that your goal here or am I missing the point?

Sincerely,

Steve Bryant

All you have done is increased the resolution , SO ?

EFILIVE which the topic is about has been using true 2 bar and true speed density throughout the whole development process , it has been available to customers to date when using the Starr supercharger , yes the resolution is at present only 10kpa ( about to be 5 kpa in next version I believe) but it does not cause a issue as the PCM interpolates between points anyway , if the engine is setup correctly it should have a smooth VE table with slight waves for VE pulses , the 5kpa increments just means more points need to be adjusted.
Dual spark tables , water injection control are all part of the code that EFILIVE have been testing and using on customers cars - I have just been lucky enough to have used my blown car for development - The Worlds fastest Street Monaro at present 10.22@139 mph full exhaust , std convertor and the original 4L60E .

Back onto track , I have LS1edit , HPtuners and Flashscan and use all three but the best product overall I find and the cable I pickup 9 times out of 10 is the EFILIVE USB Flashscan , just the inbuilt data logging makes it such a breeze to use as well as the well laid out table .

They seem to have nothing to hide as anyone can download a demo version of it before laying down any hard earned dollars to a sponsor

Do I need to start a seperate thread to discuss the pro's and con's of using HPT 2 bar or EFI L's. Besides the VE don't you give up some timing control? Is the additional resolution in HPT VE and/or timing really needed?

Personally I wasn't considering the EFI product until I read this thread. I didn't know they had a 2 bar map capability. Plus I was told that HPT's 2 bar won't work on a 03 truck computer. I'll have to check EFI Flashscan out..

Thanks

Thanks
Resolution for the Spark tables is done on dynamic airflow so it has as much if not more resolution than a normal speed desnity tune as now all the table is being used at 14 psi of boost , plus the added benifit of dual spark tables , /(both lots of software have this )
The added benifit of additional resolution is a mute point as the pcm interpolates between two points - look at ford software they only use a 3 or 4 points for the ve table and interpolate between those at any given rpm at least with the LS1 pcm there are a lot more data points to better match the curve.

I may be biased as I have all three software suites and I prefer the datalogging abilities of Flashscan that makes it my personal choice , as well as the built in descriptions and help files , support that goes above and beyond and a great windows style interface .they all will do the job just some are nicer than others - LS1edit gets a thumbs up , Hp tuners gets a more enthusiastic thumb and Flashscan gets the big thumbs up

we don't have support for 1Mb binaries in the current release (i think '03 truck is 512k anyway so it is supported now). We will be releasing that 2bar for 1Mb, 3bar for all and something we are calling "SD Enhanced" in the next release.

Cheers,

Chris...

please clarify... is Flashscan 2-bar support (I'm not talking about just scaling the VE values manually) available to EVERYONE and not just those with "Star superchargers"? I am not trying to pick a fight - just trying to decide on which suite to buy and I require 2 bar capability.

The reason I am confused is because when I asked this question on the EFILive forum 2 months ago, the crew there stated that true 2 bar support was not in the software and would not be available for several months (and would likely require the PCM to be sent in for programming).

If you tell me that 2 bar support is included for all Flashcan software sales I will probably pick it up since I already have the scantool. I will email them as well and find out.

Cheers!
