So now I gotta figure out if 85lbs is worth like $600-$700. Any other benefits to a aluminum block besides weight?

A couple of years ago Valvegod posted 114 difference...he said he actually weighed them. This was a LS1 block, but I can't think there's much difference in the LS2 and LS1.

GM in their engine repair manual shows about the same.

I measured it at 93 lbs. 87 lbs for the ls1 and 180 for the iron block.

I think of it as not just almost 100 lbs which can be had in other places on the car but its almost 100 off the nose which is harder to get I'd think.

Cooloing would also be an advantage to the aluminum block.

FWIW ive also read that the LS2 block was a couple LBS lighter thna the LS1 block.

I can get you a name and number for the guy w/ the LS2 blocks. Great guy to deal w/ as I have bought a 6.0L iron block from him in the past. I'm actually gonna get the whole rotating assembly from him also.

Eagle crank
Forged rods (Carillo? I think)
Wiseco pistons
Hellfire rings
Fed Mog main/Clevite rod bearings

Looking at $3K shipped for block and rotating assembly...
