Default LS swap but keep original gauges 84MCSS

I am wanting to swap a baby cam LQ9 w/ L92 heads and a TVS1900 blower in my 84MCSS.
The car is the way I want it basically. built 9" w/ 3.70's, Art Carr 700R4 and 2 different 350's. a 750 holley procharged 350 and a vortec headed street 350 w/ a 650cfm carb for 22-24 mpg. I just want a 6.0L w/ a TVS for perfect street manors and TONS of power. Can I keep the old gauges working?

It's doable. Formulized94 kept the stock gauges in a monte ss with an lt1 swap he did for someone. Not sure how often he gets on here though. I know there's some box to buy for the speedo to work.

I have the stock gauges in my 86 elcamino. The tach has be programed through the computer and water temp sender and oil sender can be retro fitted to the new engine and i used a abott cable x box for the speedo, it converts cable to the pulse. They all work great and i wanted to keep the stock factory gauges also.

Your MCSS temp sender will be bolted to the back of the pass side cylinder head where theres a 12mm plug. The stock MCSS oil sender can be adapted to the back of the engine or at the bottom of the oil bypass plug. Cable x box for the speedo. Dakota Digital sells the tach interface that you'll eed in order for the stock MCSS tach to read properly.

The stock MC sender is 3/8 npt and will not "adapt" to the head.. at least I havent seen one for 12mm to 3/8 npt.. even if this were so the sender would extend far out of the head and not be where its supposed to be..

I just drilled and taped the rear passenger hole for 3/8 npt..

for the oil sender ...I adapted my oil sender to the rear of my intake, where the stock sender on my 6.0 liter was, using this kit.. I have the LS2 intake though so I was able to sneak it in there by grinding down a few ribs on the intake.. There is another spot above the oil filter that people have tapped but many have had interference with exhaust..

For the speedo, if you want to retain VSS capability and have the cable for the speedo you could use this but it would require you to get rid of the 700r4 for a 4L60E or 4L65E..

Same for the cable x box.. need a VSS pulse to send to that from the trans and thats not going to happen with 700R4..

Really depends on what direction your going with this transplant.. If your going FI and using the VSS to feed the ECM\PCM for shift points or not..

You can put a VSS in a 700R4. Trans Am's went to electric speedo in 87 so it's just a matter of finding the correct parts. They were driven by a speedometer drive and driven gear. Airtex p/n 5S4657 for the correct VSS. You can get the gears at the dealership.

X2 on 700r4 vss, and S&P sells the adapter for 12mm to 3/8", I dont know WTF 2Aspire is talking bout other than giving out misinfo. If you're unsure bout something its best to say nothing or simply imply that you're not for sure.

You can also take the water temp sender to a machine shop and have it turned down on a lathe and rethreaded for 12MM. I have a spare sender and a lathe, so I think I'll try this just see how easy it is, even though my gauge already works good.

I thought I was so I'm sincerely sorry..

I guess I need not reply at 1AM lol while Im trying to get work done at the same time.. lol

However, a few things I pointed out do stand .. an adaptor for that size sensor will stick the sensor out a ways not putting the sender in the head.. I would be curious if your able to turn down a stock MC SS temp sensor to thread in a 12 MM as LS1 MCSS indicated..

Also, I was correct in saying that it depends if you intend to use the PCM for trans shift points..

Another consideration is kick down for the 700r4 but I have seen provisions for this to work as well..

I think that the 700r4 will need an adaptor for the crank pilot per this thread ..

Cheers..

The answer is, yes it works. If anyone wants one fixed, just pm me.

Update, I tried to rethread a 1/2" sender, which is for 70's gm's and they aren't thick enough. I cut through it before I got it small enough.
