Default Afr Project Car Update 480 Hp / 437 Tq !!

Hello Everyone,

I just had to share the results of our latest attempt to raise the bar once again with our "mild" 224 street package equipped with our 205 heads.
This is the same car and engine combo I have discussed with you in many previous threads.

The last and final addition to this project was the addition of a 90 mm FAST "top" (I already had the complete 78 version) and a 90 mm TPIS billet throttle body. Also, at the same time, I swapped out my 75mm LS1 MAF for the larger 85 mm 03' Z06 unit. I also changed to a Halltech airbridge which was better suited to the larger Z06 MAF.

We had hopes of seeing 5-10 additional RWHP with this set-up and low and behold, the dyno gods hovering over LAPD were smiling VERY LATE last night. Didn't get much sleep but I'm still pumped from the adrenaline rush of our results.

We actually ran some preliminary testing last Sunday which looked very promising, but decided to put some driving time on the new set-up to get a better handle about the fuel trims etc. before really trying to dial it all in.

First pull last night was 473 / 431 with a slightly different fuel curve than we left off on Sunday and to make a long but enjoyable story short, by the end of the evening our best overall run was 480 HP / 437 TQ and we actually saw a 481 HP run but we "only" made 435 TQ on that one. Actually, our best TQ run was 439 ft/lbs but wasn't coupled with the higher HP figure....we saw at least a half dozen 436-437 TQ pulls and quite a few 478-479 HP runs.

We are extremely pleased with the final results from this engine package and I personally have never experienced a 346 CID engine this docile that has such a "fury" at WOT.

If PHR or some other magazine decides to run a "Dr. Jekyl / Mr. Hyde" engine contest, count us in!

More info to come I'm sure.....

Quick 225 update....Having completed the finishing touches on the 205's, I am now back hot and heavy on the final design criteria of the 225's. Preliminary results look very good and we are doing are best to finish up this program ASAP....I know you guys have been waiting anxiously....I've got a very drivable 500+ RWHP C5 in mind!

Regards to all,
Tony Mamo

PS Just wanted to recognize our "local" dyno cell at LAPD....thanks for the use of the facilities guys....we really appreciate it. Hopefully there are still some "knurls" left on the rollers after we finish testing the 225 program hopefully soon!!

HOLY SH*T!! 480 RWHP with a 224 cam I have used AFR 165,185,and 205 castings in the past on mustangs with awesome resluts...That thing has got to be a torque monster with 205cc's and 300 cfm Congrats on the numbers..very impressive to say the least...when the 225's come out I know where I am going for my heads! I am going to get an "as cast" version and finish them myself..but I am deffinatly in for a set!

I wonder how these heads would perform on a big inch motor.

Very nice numbers Tony, especially the torque

This seems to back up the claim in the cam treads that great heads don't need (and don't really want) big cams.

At least I know I have the right cam now!!! I'd be happy with those 205's!!!! Could you post a dyno graph? Are these "box" heads any of us can buy or are they further ported and worked?

Good stuff. I've got cash ready for your 225's. I'd love to see what the 225's make with a cam similar to the T-Rex
