862 swap meet find (PICS)
Wandering through a giant swap meet this past Saturday I notice some grungy LS heads sitting there so I stop to peek. Don't really need them but had to look
Guy says 140 thousand miles off a 5.3 truck engine, didn't smoke, I'll make you a deal in em' for fifty bucks. I say " well I'll keep that in mind if I come back through this way, rockers included too??" He says YEP
bout two hours later I approach him and offer thirty bucks, he says gimme your money.
Here they are
Beautiful
Who doesn't like broken manifold bolts ?
More grunge
Chambers consistent and nasty

Nice find for $30. I see they are the early version by the notch in the deck.
I believe the felpro gasket will work on those. If not have them welded up and surfaced and then you can run any MLS gasket.

Thinking bout a .015" Wack job to get the chambers around 59 cc
Gonna toss these onto my 25K LS6 short block with mild camshaft and
Blue springs. Did just a little clean up in the bowl areas
Valves lapped in perfectly. Guides are in great shape
Quickie with the cartridge roll to clean the sludge
Little cleaner

Also took a cartridge roll to the bowl area just to pic up a few DIY ponies
Thinking Blue springs from GM
Gonna limit my cam to a 226/226; ..525"/.525" @ 114 LS
These budget heads once milled should come out at 11:50:1 with the GM MLS
Nothing fancy. Lapping compound. Cartridge roll blend

Tee Hee........................I'd love to find a clean yet disgusting looking Chevette or Pontiac T1000......**** brown with wood grain.....
I already have some ported G8 manifolds and 2 1/2" Magnaflow muffs
Kinda dig the sleeper builds...

Next up is hand grinding the blobs down before dropping them off at the machine shop for what I predict will be about a .015" clean up to remove all the coolant porosity stains. Chambers should drop from 61.15 cc to right around 59

Doubt it would be "SOON" as I'm trying to get my Vette back together currently
These were just a cheap find and something to play with that If the need arises, I'll bolt them to my original short block from my car. It's the LS6 short from late 03 that GM was putting under 241 heads into LS1 cars so it's decent.
So far I'm $105 bucks into these with rockers/stands and plus a little elbow grease...........

Looks great! I found some cheapo china alum porting rotorbits that would help port those suckers... Mine just arrived, they look great for the cost.
