I am prepping a 2000 5.3 for swap into my car over the winter. It has about 160k on the clock and I was wondering if there are any recommendations for wear items I should replace while the motor is out. I pulled the valve covers and the rockers look clean. I am not really wanting to pull the heads if I don't have to. This swap is kind of acting like a proof of concept and if it works well I may put some performance upgrades on the motor. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Here is the swap candidate as well. 1963 Ford Fairlane.
I always do lifters and head gaskets unless I'm positive the engine runs well.
The one time I didn't, it fired up with a bad lifter tick on cylinder 1.
The motor was said to run well before I pulled it. I purchased it from a friend I trust. We were unable to run it as he had pulled the column before I bought the rest of the truck from him.
