Identifying block for my 2002 ws6
I took a picture of my block casting numbers from my 2002 as I dropped it off at the machine shop.. I'm pretty confused because it's showing that it's a 2000 block as long as Google isn't lying to me. Has anyone seen these blocks in a 2002 or is this an indication that my motor has been changed out in the past? I had an ls6 intake and everything else matched typical 2002 upgrades.. I attached a picture of the casting number.
Very interesting find at the least lol.. car had 123k on it when I bought it, I'd like to think it wouldn't need an entire new motor before then but who knows..

This was stamped on the front, not sure if that tells anything? I would have thought based on the condition that this motor truly had 123k on it.. no signs of it being replaced.. even the oil pressure indicated an ls6 oil pump stock.. thanks for any input

I'm more looking for if there is a chance it came from the factory this way? Had 241 heads and 01-02 cam based of numbers that were on it.. pretty sure the block is even drilled for a timing chain damper. 2 threaded holes with nothing currently in it. Kind of weird I thought.. just curious if anyone has seen this?

12559378 was an LS1 used only in 1999-2000, according to the multiple sources (5 sources) I have found. Unforunatley it seems like it may not be the original motor.

Wow that's pretty weird lol.. considering it had all of the 01-02 upgrades it makes it even more confusing. It's like they changed just the shortblock and used all of the original items from the motor.. maybe it spun a rod bearing in the past or something. Didn't expect to find that.
If they did all of the 01-02 upgrades there really isn't anything different with the block is there?

AL Block Strength
Hi, your picture shows the 1" hole between the CAM JOURNALS/MAINS.
That block should have the TWO "different" long head bolt sizes.
These items, as noted by GM, are NOT good for a HP use engine.
The block is drilled for the chain guide.
This is common on later blocks, a very good item to note/fit.
Would you state the use of your car, the future HP wanted ?
My concern is that you could be better off with a GEN-IV block. (less costs)

Yes, 1 hole, different length head bolts.. but it appears there are timing damper holes unless I'm mistaken.. I thought those only came in the 01-02 blocks only? I plan to do heads/cam and maybe a 100-150 shot down the road. Just a weird combination lol. I bought the ARP head bolts 134-3609 are those the right length?

Your motor is fine and probably the original. You will find 241 heads on some 2000 cars. You will find some 2000 blocks in in 2001 cars etc. Throw in your cam of choice and spray that bitch. Yes, you should have 2 bolts per head a little shorter.

Yeah with the way everything was matching up to 2002 I was curious if this was a left over block they had at the factory and slapped it in my 02.. the only thing that isn't 02 about it is the numbers on it.. just a weird scenario and wasn't expecting to find that

But did 2000 motors come with drilled timing damper holes? That really confuses me, thought it was 01-02 that had that.. it's getting rebuilt now anyways.. all new bearings, rings, and ARP bolts.. more or less trying to figure out how it has all the 01-02 upgrades but a 2000 block lol..

Head Bolt Length
Hi, not sure about the ARP "bolt" requirement, they do state TWO Long Bolt sizes.
I would use my Chinese STUDS @ $100.00 to your door.
That reason is that after the third reuse, the block threads have a great chance to "pull".
This is mainly due to the AL Alloy of the GM casting.
The thread "always #7" has a LOT to do with GM changing to EQUAL Long Bolts.
I would fit King Race Bearings, get the mains under .0022", NOT greater.
I would fit NPR rings, a steel ring at low cost.
I would fit a single Progear (Avon Automotive) single chain timing set.
I would fit a Camaro 2010 GM Oil Pump @ $90.00 "GM Dealer" price.
DO NOT waste money on this block if the bores are too large for a .002"+ Finish Hole size.

Not sure if serious? We beat the living **** out of high mileage LS everything under the sun with great results. Heads/cam LS1's are all over the place from every year block and trim. LM7's, LM4's, LQ9's, etc.

Yea i know my block will most likely be fine unless the machine shops determines other-wise.. I was just real interested in the fact that its a 2000 block with all the upgrades and drilled timing damper holes.. I'm surprised nobody has seen this before.. Regardless I plan to use it, just never heard of such a thing. I've heard of ls6 blocks in 2002's but not 2000's lol.
Pantera i have already purchased the head bolts so will probably stick with them for now. I wish i would have know about your studs and i would have probably gone that route. I am hoping the machine shop will get back with me this week on how the internals are looking. I appreciate the information on clearances.

Mystery solved.. thanks to an old trusty book.. lol this cast # did come in 2002s..
Sorry for the sideways picture.. I was talking to a friend tonight and he got curious and found it in that book.. it's most likely the original motor

lol i just thought it was interesting info because you can't find anything online saying those blocks are in 2002. I was going to build it regardless, its actually at the machine shop now, just thought maybe i had some kind of frankenstein 2000 motor from the factory that had all of the 2002 upgrades. Who knows maybe someone else will find it in the future and this thread will save some confusion for them. I appreciate everyone chiming in!
