You may want to measure the glass and contours of some other coupes. The first thing that comes to mind is the camaro. You could aim to set your door length to accommodate that glass size.
Great idea, but it seems lIke the camaro window is a lot shorter than the Vs. Looks like I'd have to chop the top like 4-5" to be able to use that window. I already cut the B pillar out today and tacked it in place in its new location, Don't want to do it again to make the camaro window work. Oh well, we'll see
Got it. I forget what I HATE HATE HATE about the new muscle cars(save for the Mustang, but it looks like they are getting shorter by the minute as well)..the glass is all so short it's like driving a submarine. If not for that specific attribute I would probably be in a Challenger forum right now. I was all about trying one out when they came out and I just didn't like the driver's view.
And BTW, I think "success" works in the thread..I always read it like "great success" like this..you know, in a thumbs-up kinda way...thumbs up from a hairy guy in a thong kinda way:
Forgot to post these, B pillar is out and tacked into its new location. Now just have to extend the door and hinge and make it all line up. The bottom of the B pillar from boxed in before tacking the B pillar it's in new location, to make it stronger and give the B pillar more welding surface. I'm going to try to complete the drivers side first, then move onto the passenger, after bother sides are done I'll start focusing on the roof
I'm impressed your doing this in what looks like a 2 car garage right up against a wall.
Just curious, why lengthen the front doors 6"? Are the (newer cts-v) coupe door longer than the sedan doors?
Yea it's my 2 car garage, wish I could afford a ware house, but this will do for now, I still got about 3ft on the other side. I'm working on another car that I roll outside while I work on this one, but it's enough space for now.
All coupes have longer doors than their sedan versions. 6" just seemed like a good length according to the rendering. I actually moved the B pillar back another 2" after the pics were taken.
Next up is extending the door and filling in the rear section so it can start looking like a car again, atleast on the drivers side.
How many horses you get out of that tire in the engine compartment
Thanks for keeping us updated !!
About a million lol.
It's actually the complete front and rear cradle sitting in front, trying to sell them but no one is calling locally, might just trash them.
I'm trying to update and work on it as much as possible before I sell my house, plus I love build threads, especially crazy ****. Figured I'd add mine to the forum.
Nik is trying to be funny. He is. The OGs have seen this 1000s times on different forums, hell even here. Don't take offense, we all want you to fail miserably or create something badass. Either way we are good.
I think it is looking great.
And no, I was not the douche canoe that started a thread about my car burning down. Yes, I was in a bad wreck and yes my V was a total loss, but I moved on and already have another.....
I'm liking this! Way to do something different and imo pretty badass. I'm sure you are dead set on using an LSx platform, but the sts-v 4.4 and the sts awd setup will work together with the sts/srx 4.6 oil pan. The T-case output is on the passenger side as well. I'm curious with the TBSS drivetrain how much are you going to have to mess with the tunnel to get clearance for the driveshaft on the drivers side.

I look forward to more progress
Thanks bud. Yea I'm dead set on the lsx platform, I already have it all and it's proven for the 1000hp dream Im shooting for eventually. The tbss does come out drivers sides but ill be converting it to passenger drop. Since I'm building a full tube frame, I'm not worried about the tunnel, it'll all be a newly built floor anyway.
Sorry man for that question, i´m a big fan of your work here, but how will you weld this sometimes double or triple layered metal sheet in rocker rail, door post etc., they all have a inner structure for durability?
You have only access to the upper metal sheet or did you try window welding to get the subjacent sheets for welding?
Never really done a lot of fabricating myself, but am I wrong that by cutting some of the stuff you cut you basically murdered the structural integrity of the car?
Thanks BudRacing. Yes again, the body of the car is irrelevant when it comes to structural, it's literally a shell that sits on a complete tubular chassis, like pro mods and dragsters.
Anyways... updates!
Finally cut and tacked the passenger side B pillar, started making gusset plates to tie the new B pillar location and the shortened body all together and make it more rigid.
Extended the drivers side door and tacked, only the outer shell, still need to do the inner layer where the hinge bolts up, and extend the window frame using part of the rear doors window frame.
The body line doesn't match at all between the front door and what use to be rear door, I swear you remove 8" off of a car and it gets all out of wack!! Lol . Still havnt really decided how I'm going to make the body line, line up again but I'm leaning towards cutting an angled cut on the doors and fenders and let it gradually incline up towards the rears body line so it meets up. While filling in the gap with sheetmetal. (Hopefully I explained that right).
It's a bit confusion and awkward looking right now since you can see both door handle cut outs so close together but they'll both be filled in and shaved. The rear door is just being held on by the magnets and jack, so it's not perfectly aligned... you get the picture though...
Oh, and the sheetmetal work and tacking and aligning is NOT done in any way, shape or form, just giving everyone a heads up.
Haha didn't notice my reflection. Yes, I always work bare feet, can't stand shoes lol. So far, haven't lost any toes so I'm good, even though I don't feel the bottom of my feet lol
