Ls1 Iroc Swapping to Turbo - billet 78/75 and A/W
#81
Well, drove the car today. Was a bit upset at the biggenig by then I figured it out.
1/2 mile into the drive the car started puking oil out of the exhaust. I thought the turbo seals were screwed. Pulled the oil fill cap off and all is well, problem gone. Time for a vented catch can it seams.
It's on 5# right now and it feels like an animal. I ran 11.8@117 on motor before and the car would dead hook on the street, dig or roll. Now, it blows the tires off from a dig or roll. Some suspension work might be in order if the new tires don't hold it.
Think I'm going. To do a hood exit exhaust. I cannot believe how quite it is with only 8" of pipe on the turbo, much quieter than the car was n/a. Took a couple local guys for a ride that own ls7 454 Chevelles and they about **** themselves. It's going to be a good year.

Congrats on having a problem free-ish first drive. I totally understand the want for a hood exit after having a lopy n/a steup. The turbo really takes that aspect away. But the way power comes on is surreal. My car doesnt want to hook worth a damn on the city streets...will wiggle in 4th from a roll. Takes getting used to again and thats the fun part.
Im anxiously waiting for my billet 84mm to arrive tonight and put that bitch on..first thing in the morning and see what turbo whistles that thing gives me vs my old 78 cast snail.

Thanks stover!
I'm using the stock gm ecu and hp tuners
Thanks! It is the weirdest thing, listening to the back of the hood exit lope and then walking around to the back of the car and hearing nothing. It's messing with my head pretty hard core haha! Swapping in my 3.08's right now. Laying on my back in my yard, it's 12* here right now. I'm ready for race season lol

Yes it does! Very very pleased! Haven't even started playing with the tune to make it better.
Red Bull be sure to report back how it responds, and any comparison data you have! I'm very interested!
I swapped back to my 3.08's tonight, and installed my carbon ford racing clutch kit.
I'm pretty sure the converter is going to require being changed, it revs and makes a lot of noise but doesn't do a whole lot. Pretty sure it's blowing thrue the converter. But I've never experienced that before, so I'm not sure.

Biggest thing is is it takes about 33% more fuel than pump gas, said injectors and pumps become expensive. I'm running it because it's cheap and readily available here. Biggest perks imo is the detonation resistance. I'm no pro tuner so I like the safety factor.

thanks! I'm excited as well, I've been very happy so far. Can't wait to see what Tripling the boost and adding some timing does for it.
spoke with dusty at ptc, sent him that video. He recommended that I spin the engine to my shift rpm of 6500 and then shift and see what the drop is and then make the decision if it needs pulled or not.

Installed an an air filter, I'm a little nervous to use this silicone 90* but its all I had/will fit.
Thoughts?
