EDIT: The short version, for those of you with a 1999-2002 LS1, do you have 3 fuel lines coming up from under the hood, or 2? If only 2, is there a T-block like this near the fuel filter?
The long version is that I think the manual I am looking at is wrong, and shows the V6 version for both V6 and V8 cars after 1999. Below is what I wrote before I came to that conclusion.
I swapped my 1998 metal fuel tank to a 1999-2002 plastic gas tank. Everything connected up perfectly. I haven't started it up yet though, as the engine is an LS3 that is not in the car yet.
I thought all was good, until I found these diagrams of the two systems. I swapped my tank, pump, evap system, and the plastic lines coming off the tank, but I did NOT swap the metal lines that run down the center tunnel. Do I need to pull fuel lines from a newer car as well?
It would appear that there is one more line terminating at the engine on the 1999-2002 cars, but I do not even know where that would go on the LS3. The tank itself has 3 plastic hoses for each variant, but it looks like they connect like this:
1998:
1) Fuel out (through filter)
2) Return "FRT" (pump to "T" block after filter)
3) EVAP line from canister
1999-2002:
1) Fuel return line???
2) Fuel out (through filter)
6) EVAP line from canister
For the later model system, I cannot find any pictures which even show line #1. Is this just for the V6 cars? If so, the stupid GM parts manual is wrong. Is the above picture accurate?
Thanks. If your first post is correct, RockinWs6, then the diagrams are wrong.
Notice that the "T" line one is listed for the 1998 LS1 only. The 3 line one is listed for all cars 1999-2002, including V8s, which it should not. It should say V6 only, and there should be a separate one for V8s after 1998, but there is no such page in the manual.
Thanks, wasn't sure at first, but the more I started looking, that seemed likely. So if any future tank-swappers come here in search of the fuel line routing, all LS1's use the returnless 2 line fuel lines with the T-block next to the fuel filter, only the tank hardware changed in 1999, along with the location of the charcoal canister. The images from the manual above for 1999-2002 are for the 3.8L V6 model only.
