Default Oil Pressure Sending Unit

I'm getting the motor ready to put it back in my car and was wondering for the oil pressure sending unit do I need thread tape on there? Looks like there was some on there before?

Using thread sealer should be fine. I don't think these sensors ground through the block.

The red paste (for me) works better than the tape,, FWIW the white tape is not hydrocarbon compatible, you need to use the yellow PTFE tape thats made for gas line , most places that sell natural gas appliance stuff have the tape its like a buck more a roll than the white and seals and works nicer. Its thicker and has more strength whole your wrapping it, takes less to do the job..

Be careful putting your engine back in with that hanging out there like that. They snap pretty easy.

Some of those threads look like they don't have anything on them. Permatex thread sealant either with teflon or ptfe will work just fine for those applications.

I meant to point out,, buy and Aeroquipe fitting for the block with a NPT to AN4 male, make a 6" AN4 hose with a an4 female swivel fitting on one end and a NPT on the other, then the sender is not rigid mounted, and can be easily removed if needed, just mount it with a 1" adel clamp on a handy intake or valve cover bolt. My jeep uses the same style sensor in a similarly pain in the neck location I did this and it really makes replacement and checking easy.. I can unscrew the electric and put my mechanical on it to validate the dash reading..

Thanks for the information! I was wondering if this was the stock sensor since it looked a little different from pictures. I'll have to take a look at my old motor.

The sensor may be stock, but there is an extra fitting, along with some tubing, in there compared to what's on my car. The fitting that is screwed into the block, and the fitting screwed into that fitting are what came from the factory, I believe. It looks someone added the tubing and fitting that the sensor is actually screwed into, probably to provide better access to the sensor.

What you have is an earlier sensor (that would have gone on the side of the block and has larger threads) along with an adapter for it.

Stock would have been this.
