Hey guys, anybody have a video or a written how to on drilling a block for a timing chain dampner. Considering having my machine shop do this why my block was being checked out, just wondering if it's ever been done by a typical diy guy and if there were any measurements and such.
Have you considered the Trick Flow® Timing Chain Dampeners TFS-K30675600. It is like $50 so probably less than the machinist would charge and the kit includes the adapter bracket, bolts and damper.
Not sure about some of the aftermarket versions of the original GMPP dampener, but when I bought my GMPP dampener it came with a drilling template. You might see if Katech still has the dampener or the template. I scanned mine below for you but some of the information seems to be missing, the bolt thread size in particular. Note this is the original bolt spacing and location for the LS1/LS6 GMPP dampener. The LS2 dampener (less expensive and still available) has different mounting hole locations.
I have a RDE one sitting here. The bolts are 8 x 1.25 x 35 hex/washer head. The spacing on this one matches that drawing. There's another kind that has closer spacing than this one's 55.5mm, maybe more like 43.5mm or so.
