just raw data...there were 10x the 60e produced vs 65/70 so there are more of those broken probably
the conclusion was reached based on experience, study of the design and metallurgy, and understanding of the true failure mode/root cause of damage and recognizing that 5 pinions are worse for the most common failure modes.
Myself, vortec, and a couple "big name" shops you probably know about have used the 4 pinions in "increased power" applications as you might say and their track record is convincing enough for me to continue using the 4 pinion over the 5 pinion.
