Default Caught an 05 GTO out...

Was leaving the new Super Walmart about 10 minutes away from my house tonight around 10:30. Got caught at the redlight turning left onto the 4lane to go straight....dont know how to explain this, but there is 2 left hand turn lanes, so I'm in the far 'left' left hand turn lane, and a 04-05 GTO w/ram air hood pulls next to me in the 'right' left hand turn lane....I couldve swore it was a charcoal grey color, but it was night and my g/f said it was a deep bluish purple color...oh well, doesnt matter.

Light turns green, I didnt think he would do anything really, he just kept glancing at my car....but we rode the left hand turn out, and as soon as it straightened out, he got on it hard. Pulled 1 1/2 cars on me immediately cause I was just going about 25, then I got on it, car kicked down to first gear and spun a little, caught traction and took off after him.

By about 60-65 my front bumper was at his mirror, I glanced over and seen blue gauges everywhere glaring off his window, and that was the only look I really got. I started pulling him hard around 80, and at about 105 I was at least 2 cars in front of him. I slowed back down and cruised about 60 in the left lane, he rode my *** for about a mile then jumped over in the right lane next to me...rode beside of me for about 2 miles, then jumped on it out of nowheres from around 55-60. I was kinda ready this time though, and he only got about half a car on me, by 100 I was in front again and pulling hard so I got on the brakes. He came flying past me when I got back down to 70 or so and got off the next exit...

To beat it all, It was me, my 120 lb g/f, an 80 lb vented sub box, and the killer.................I had just bought my dad a grandfather clock for Xmas from Walmart, and I had my back seat folded down with the clock laying on top, the car would not have held anything else in it...I was probably around 3800 lbs with all of that in there...I really didnt think I would have a chance against the goat..

This was my first encounter with any car since the converter swap, car feels alot stronger now..

BTW, my car is '98 Trans Am, A4, 85,000 miles, ram air, slp smooth bellow and cold air, stock exhaust manifolds into ORY into Magnaflow catback, B&M 3000 stall converter with tranny cooler. Black 17x9.5 Z06 wheels on 275's. Stock 3.23's

I find that stalled cars cause manual cars to loose power.

Good kill!

Thanks...
It was an 04-05 w/ram air hood...I'm not real sure on the year as I dont really know the differences...I know I wouldn't have stood a chance before the converter though..

I was very pleased with the stall also. It woke my car up at all speeds plus no more dead spot like it use to have. Put a cam in your car and get a tune.

Great kill! Ram air hood means it is an 05 (LS2-400hp). BTW, how does a stall make the car so much stronger?? I have an A4 99 TA...don't know much about transmissions...please explain if you don't mind someone...?!?

Have a ton of parts sitting in the garage and in my room, going heads/cam/intake/LT's here pretty soon...but you're right man, the '35 mph dead spot' is no longer there...

Does a ram air hood really mean it was an 05? Do they make the hoods for the 04's yet..? I'm really suprised if it was an 05, I know I'm nowheres near 400 hp....
But I am for sure it had the ram air hood.

I ran an 04 on the street that was making 350ish rwhp according to the owner, you can find the race in other posts, but their weight really hts them. It was prolly an 04 though, being as you have around 300ish rwhp and weiged (at the time) about the same as him and you still won. The 05 i'm pretty sure woulda had you.

Pontiac put the 05 hood on some leftover 04's to try and move the leftovers (I almost brought one dressed up like this). Either way, good kill

Good kill,change that convertor to a Yank PT4000 add,Hooker LT's and Nitto's.
That got me to the low 12's without a tune .

Love the feeling of a aftermarket stall to pull hard from a dig and all the way around the speedo.
I put my stock convertor back in my car for a month or so while i sent back the Yank for warranty work and OMFG was this thing a turd, compairitively.

Headers,ORY,Borla,Lid,K&N,Diablo,NGK TR6's and minus the convertor the pig would not go anywhere till it hit around 3500-4000 rpms.

Nice kill and nice looking TA. Could have been an 04 with a ram air hood. Easiest way to tell the 05's is their exhaust. Its 2 split pipes exiting out the rear as opposed to the single outlet on the 04's. Either way good kill, and im sure the TC helped a ton.

I know a stock 05 is probably faster than a stock 04 Goat, but I'd assume there are more aftermarket mods for the 04's? They use the LS1 don't they?

he may not have been a good driver, because my friend has one that goes to ETSU and I rode in it and it pulled like a bat out of hell, but he was a really good driver . They have the LS2 with 400bhp,

yes they have the LS1 in the 04 but then they moved to the LS2 for 05.

Yup 04's have the ls1 but I believe the goats are a little heavier. The 05's are def faster stock, guys have broken into the 12's stock with 05's which is damn impressive.
