Th350 in ls1, converter crank hub not close /w washers?
someone tell me if this is right:
Ive got a th350 on my ls1. When you bolt it up, the converter is approx 1/8th of an inch away from the flexplate. I use 3 washers between the flexplate and the converter. To keep it from pulling the converter out of the tranny and so theres no space between them.
And when you look at the center of the converter hub, the converter is about 1/8-1/4 inch from sticking into the crank/flexplate to center the converter. So basically it doenst touch. Should i trust this to align the converter and keep everything centered? I dont want to spend $600 on a custom converter to fix this. Whats available for this or just run it the way it is? Ive ran it about 1000 miles this way so far.

Seems like I remember someone mentioning a bushing to go into the crank to let the hub of the converter set into. The conveter also needs a little room from the trans pump, I don't remember exactly how much. Maybe .1 inch ?
I recall on serveral occasions folks saying that washers were bad, to use between the converter and the flexplate.
definetaly a bad idea with the washers. unless you had some machined to exact tollerances, it could warp the flexplate or fry your pump. the converter should pull away from the tranny a little bit upon installation. and its also true you need a bushing to correct the gap from the flexplate to the converter.
i took mine into a local trans shop and for 20 bux they put a extension on the end of my converter... about 1/8th inch longer.. works like a charm for me
