Default Help please ! 2002 z28 5.7

I have a 2002 z28 5.7 and my temperature gauge isn't working what is causing this ?

It's either a bad temperature sensor, the wire or connector to the temperature sensor is broken or a defective gauge. My guess is a bad sensor or connection. The temperature sensor is located on the side of the driverside cylinder head near the exhaust manifold.

could the sensor be causing it to white smoke just a little when started ? When it warms up it pretty much stops

Not at all, the sensors job is to report the engine temperature to the gauge. The gauge needs the sensor and connection. The white smoke is likely condensation coming through the exhaust and goes away once everything heats up to operating temperature.

The sensor is just above the No.1 sparkplug.
