We have 2011 Chevy Tahoe with a 5.3 from an 08 in it. I'm getting check engine code p0010 because of lack of the cam actuators? active fuel management still intact unfortunately. I would really like to get this check engine light off and also I want to make sure the tune is appropriate for the vehicle. As far as I know it doesn't have any performance modifications and is a stock motor, but I can't know for sure. Do I need an ECM tune or is there a simple adapter?
The engine runs well, but when it starts, it sounds like the advance is too great on the timing. I hear a little pinging/detonation, but it quickly goes away. I'm very new to the GM engines, but willing to learn! Thanks

You have an open circuit going to the solenoid that controls VVT. There's no module to fix this, you either have a faulty solenoid or a broken wire somewhere in the circuit. Use a DVOM to test the circuit for continuity, and if you have it, replace the solenoid. If you don't have it, you'll have to open your wiring harness and find the broken wire.

Thanks for your reply. The 08 motor doesn't have a VVT cam. After more research, I think I need to have the ECU tuned to delete the VVT. My coworker has HP tuner he said he could do it. After reading more on the HP forum, I think this is the correct path. Now I'm contemplating a cam upgrade too. Where does it end?! LOL
