Hi everyone. I have a question regarding these pumps. I'm in the middle of designing my build, and am interested in running a Derale oil cooler in the trunk/rear fender. I will also be using an accusump system and a melling 10296 pump.
I'm aware that running lines all the way to the back, and through a cooler will reduce oil pressure, especially at that length ( roughly 20-25 feet total )
Has anyone run an external rear mount cooler with this pump? If so, what size -AN hose did you choose, what cooler did you go with ? and have there been any oil pressure drop issues ?
Have about 11 feet in mine with a 10295 high pressure pump. They are -10 AN lines off a Canton baffled pan to a giant remote filter/cooler combo in the front bumper of my Trans Am. My motor is a loose 418 LS3 stroker. With 5w-40 I see about 30-35 psi at idle with 210 degree oil, and 60 psi at WOT, which is about a 5 psi difference from no cooler at that temp. Problem is, I'd see north of 280 degree oil temps at a track day and I'd be parking it to cool with like 10 psi idle at that temp. Never goes over 220 degrees unless I'm really pushing at a track day, even then it barely goes past.
Thats good information. so even with only 11FT your getting as low as 10 PSI on a bad day. I wont be building my motor too loose, but I can definitely see some future issues if I were to run it that far. Maybe a valve actuated by high pressure to direct flow to the cooler.
