Default Road Racing 404 , Which Cam....

OK, so my 404 (LS2 bored 10 over with a 4 inch crank) is done. I am topping it off with GM Performance ported LS3 heads. Compression comes out to around 10.8 to 1. Will be using a stock LS3 intake.
This is going going my 2003 C5 Z06. Not a daily driver. I do use it for about 5-6 road racing track events every year.

Cam choices:
I have the following to chose from in my stash:
TSP 1.2 LS7 Cam (228 / 240, 600/600 - since I am using 1.7 rockers on a 114 LSA)
Custom Cam Motion 232 244, 646/637 on a 114+3
Second cam is for sure a big boy cam, but I am told LS3 headed cars like these type of cams.

I am running BTR 660 springs and will change them every year.
I am not looking to break any dyno records.. My gut point me to the TSP cam but I think that is due to being a bit scared of the big boy cam.

I have several other cams around, but would love to hear opinions from folks on here.

I am somewhat conservative on cam size, BUT 232*/244* for a 404" LS3 Headed Track car I would consider
Schmedium, at most. I would lower the lift < .630" if using stock rockers, something like .621"/.608".
My .02

Thank you sir for the guidance. These are cams I have laying around so no way to change the specs. (I am a bit of a parts hoarder.)

A road race engine needs "area under the curve" torque to pull out of corners. So with that in mind, your TSP cam looks better to me. That LS3 intake valve is going to be closer to the cylinder wall on your 4.010" bore vs the stock LS3 4.065" bore, which might shroud it a bit.

What's the track layout like? I'm thinking tight corners you're going to want some good low-end, and the smaller TSP with 4* advance is probably going to work better. If there's long straights to wind it out through several gears, maybe then go with the big boy. If it's going to vary, use the TSP for track flexibility. Since the TSP was designed for 1.8s in mind, it should be very stable at extended high rpm periods, and gentle on the valves too.

I just built a 416 LS3 for road racing. TSP Brawler heads (similar to ported stock LS3 heads). 11.5:1 compression. Running a carb and big single plane intake. This is in a 3200 lb stock car.

I worked with Brian Tooley Racing to design a custom cam for my application. 243/258 @ 0.050 / 0.629/0.621 lift / 109.5 LSA

Made 565 wheel on the dyno (so ~650 crank horsepower). They actually designed the cam to be a little softer down low so it hooks up a little better coming out of the corner. I still have to ease into it but it had really good manners on the track.
